May 28th, 11 – Jake 48
Dear all,
I have been reading the lovely messages and we are so grateful for the kind words of your parishioners and friends. We noticed that some even wanted to give a gift towards the Jacob Barnes Award at the Royal Academy of music.
We have already collected enough to support students mount a performance each year for the next 25 years - the wording of the award is as follows: 'Jacob won many prizes in his short life for musical excellence, but curiosity, humanity and love of communication underpinned his music. He wanted to develop more than just technical excellence and had a high regard for illuminating and creative ways of presenting music. We have decided therefore to set up an annual Jacob Barnes award at the Royal Academy of Music to support the performance of chamber works in unusual or imaginative contexts.' I also attach the homily given at Jacob's funeral and mine and in the next email the Eulogies given by the children with best wishes, Jonathan Barnes Senior Lecturer in Education Canterbury Christ Church University
